I agree! I wouldn't have thought that an old pallet could look so good. Now I wonder where I can pick one up?
I know where to get one and what I will plant in it...Strawberries! We've got hornets and yellow jackets that insist on eating the inside of my ripe berries. I gave up and pulled them all up. This would be so simple to hang a net over to keep them off the nice juicy berries.
That's a great idea Ronni. Eileen when we were having our house renovated, some of the building materials came palletized and these were one way pallets meaning that the pallets were not taken. Maybe if there is a house under construction or renovated nearby your place you might be able to find one. I wish I had kept one ... sigh!
We have a bunch of pallets at my work. I love this cute idea, and am going to "do one up" this spring,at the shop!
About all I have been able to do with them is make fire wood. The boards are very hard to pry apart and usually break. Of course by the time I get them they are old and beat up. I may try to acquire some for experimenting.
I was checking on strawberries to see what I wanted to order when it dawned on me...how can I protect the plants in our zone 4b to 5a winters??
OK, so I know I started out with a garden pallet idea, but I found another use for one. Rather than starting a new thread, I figured I'd just add to this one!!
Great ideas....we used to get pallets for free but now company's are re-using them which does make good sense. We used to use them at our last home to pile our firewood onto to keep it off of the wet ground...
Pallets are apparently coming very much into vogue as repurposed furniture. I found this great link with all kinds of intriguing ideas for pallets, some gardening related and some not. http://www.mixer2mower.com/genius-pallet-projects.html/2 Here are a couple of images from the link. First a cool looking pallet potting bench: And then a a pallet compost bin. Many more ideas in the link!
