A peaceful protest march through downtown Dallas (the aftermath of the two shootings by police in other cities this last few days) turned into a horror. The marchers were safe but the police officers there to control traffic and protect them if necessary were targeted by two snipers on top of a parking garage, 11 officers where shot and 4 of them have died, two are still battling for their lives, the others will recover.
They have one suspect bottled up in an alley who is heavily armed and claiming there are bombs all over the down town area and more officers will be killed, two other people have been detained as suspicious.
I think only one of protesters was hit by gunfire but she is going to be fine physically.
Prayers and good thoughts for the injured and family of the dead please.

    Update:
4 people of been arrested and a 5th office has died.

This is so, so sad. :( I was shocked when I read of the Mn shooting which is one of the recent events that sparked the Dallas shooting. Castile was stopped for a broken taillight, had notified the officer that he was licensed to carry a handgun and was reaching for his wallet at the officer's request when he was shot.

I understand that 5 police offers have now died. What a tragedy.

Police officers are true heroes. They face constant danger and still manage to do their jobs. Being shot by a cowardly sniper is despicable. I fear for our social fabric.

I do too Jane. When people can do this without a second thought then there is something seriously wrong with our society. I can't help thinking of the families of the deceased officers and how they will cope with their loss. I hope the other 6 injured police will all recover fully.

Some of the injured officers have already been discharged from the hospital. Two civilians were injured by gun fire too. One was a Mom who pushed her 15 yr old son to the ground and then laid on top of him to protect him, she and the other one have both been treated and released with minor wounds.

Watched this incident on TV last night and have been listening to all the talking heads give their analysis this morning. What a complete tragedy. Awful. Hardly have words sufficient to express what I feel.

More than understand there are issues on all sides that are serious and deep. The shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota are absolutely awful and the events of last night in Dallas are equally tragic. How can we collectively move to a peaceful respectful equilibrium?
