These bugs are on a voodoo lily and seem like a young version of something I should recognize? The lilly stinks of course so the bugs must like that smell. Someone on another site suggested red-lined carrion beetle and that seems right
They are not dung beetles, or at least I don’t think so. They have the head and body shape of a stink bug, but not the same colour.
It’s a stink bug.. I hate those things. They were everywhere a few years ago. Threatened agriculture and hops a major export. The state hired airplanes to spray and not only were all the stink bugs gone but nothing flew walk or crawled for 3 years after they sprayed. It was a twilight moment.. check out the bug chart on the opening page.
Red-lined Carrion Beetle - Necrodes surinamensis That is what it looks like to me https://bugguide.net/node/view/917015/bgimage It has pincers and odd antennae. https://bugguide.net/node/view/6741/bgimage?from=24
I agree that this is one of the carrion beetles - otherwise burying beetles. These wonderful flat beetles do a great job of dealing with decomposing bodies - exactly the same aroma as the voodoo lily has (foul) It has an extra flat body which is useful to dig under a rotting body and cover it with soil. All of these insects have important parts to play in nature and it's such a shame that so many humans rush to kill everything off with poisons !!
