What are "USDA zones" in other countries?

Hello,
In the USA, we have the USDA zones to tell us about the winter lows in all of North America. I am in zone 7, which means it is generally no lower than 0-5F.

I was wondering if there is a chart or map like this for those of you in other countries. I would like to understand your weather & growing season better, so if anyone knows of something like this for other places, please let me know.

Much of our seeds--especially perennials and fruit--have this marking on them. For example, a plant may say zones 3-7 meaning it will grow in colder places and places with warm summers, but not in the south.

I would like to know the zones for other folks on GardenStew.

I saw a reference to the Zone Structures before in these posts but didn't understand what it referred to.

I have never encountered it here in the UK but I don't see how it could be applied in any case because the weather has been prone to such abnormal and unprecedented fluctuation due to climate change, most noticably in rainfall and temperture.

 

Yes, things have been changing...I used to be zone 6!

Well, Tom, that map is a bit funny, because according to our zone map I'm in zone 4, and yours says 8. The temps are accurate though.

shoot i'm not even listed,,i guess nothing grows in the Artic.

 

I don't know what to say, could there be such a thing as a metric zone map and a American zone map??? Like the difference between Fahrenheit, and Celsius ??

As long as I can see what it is like where other are, I will have a basis for understanding their climate and growing season. If we seed swap, I can make suggestions out of my personal stash based on their climate. I do hop to trade seed with those of you who are in other countries and have other offerings.

Robin some may can send you seeds as Australia but they may not be able to recieve your seeds by law.Most other countries will not allow you to swap seeds.I have swapped candles for seeds once.

Naw, it's just that we're probably upside-down. Zone 1 is our warmest, and 8 our coldest. I understand that USA have 11 zones where 2 through 10 are divided in a and b. Can't even agree on a world standard on temp zones, can we?
