It's a leopard moth caterpillar. As far as I can tell from reading on the net it will eat dandelions and other weeds, not only garden plants. Here's a link with lots of information on it: http://www.squidoo.com/black-fuzzy-caterpillar
Thank you Droopy...that's exactly what it was...i say was because i threw it in the tree yesterday before i asked what it was...OOOOPPPPSSS!!! It will prob end up there again. Now I know!!!
