It's funny how the goals you had when you were a youngster differ so wildly from when you go out into the real world Me, I wanted to be in a successful band when I was in my teenage years and I do believe I wanted to be a vet when I was much smaller. Although now I don't see how I could have ever achieved any of those. At the time they seemed entirely possible.
I think that the best answer I ever heard to the age old question posed to a small schoolboy. "And what do you want be when you grow up?" The boy thought for a while and answered seriously, not cheeky or anything. "Bigger!". I wanted to be a chef, but found I was unable to take the heat, then later in life discovered I wanted to be a gardener and then had it forced on me in a way, so feel very lucky!
I wanted to be a vet but, at the time, all the expense of achieving my dream was just too much for me. I became a vet. nurse instead though and loved every minute of it!! :-D
From age 8 I wanted to work with small children. I thought about being a kindergarten teacher but got married instead. I worked as a special education aide for preschool children and as a day care teacher and I volunteer as a children's volunteer at the library and at the one in Black Canyon City. So, I guess though it's not exactly what I thought it's close enough. Dooley
I wanted to be a vet too! I think you will find gardeners like us wanted to be or have jobs now, where they take care of something, either childern, the elderly , animals or plants. We are the worlds caretakers. 8)
I wanted to be a lawyer, but discovered a huge socail life when taking my A levels and didn't get terribly good grades. Uni was a no (something I will always regret) so decided as I had a musical upbringing, I would venture that way. Ended up working for a record and film company and having a BALL! Now I do something not because it pays the bills or I have to do it, but because I love doing it, pottering in other peoples gardens for them!
I always wanted to be a Gardener , my late father (Ar dheis De a anam )had a nursry and garden centre business , my grandfather and great grandfather were gardeners . I have an advertisment from 1874 showing my greatgrandmother selling cabbage plants and listed as a nursrywoman , so I suppose there was never really any question of what I wanted to do . Two uncles and three cousins are gardeners :lol Guess what my 15 year wants to be 8) A gardener 8) Bugs
When I was small I either wanted to tame wild horses or be a librarian, LOL... When I got older, it was the librarian option that appealed, but then I found out how many years of school it takes for a Masters in that, and how few paying jobs there were to fight for and abandoned it for my (then) second choice of being a counselor. I got my Bachelors in psych and speech communications, but by then I knew I didn't want to be a counselor after all and wandered off into random office work. BUT in church, I took up caring for the church library...which led to caring for another church library...which led to setting up a library for a small school... which led to my current job as an elementary librarian for a middlin' sized private school. So I'm a librarian after all - go figure!
I grew up wanting to be a wife and mother. I wanted to learn about a lot of things and read a lot but none of them were things I wanted to pursue. I have had several jobs over the years when finances were tight but I never wanted one of them as a career. I never had any interest in going to college. I do remember when I was really young, making pretend gardens - planting leafy twigs from shrubs and sneaking flowers from the neighbors yard and planting them in my "garden" So I guess being a gardener was in my blood all the time. When my youngest daughter started school, several friends asked me when I was going back to work. Then they were aghast when I said I wasn't, that being a stay at home Mom was the only job I wanted.
I also wanted to be a vet!!!LOL!! Seems to be a trend!! But I got married and had a baby very early. Then I went to Medical Assisting School after my youngest child was born.I hated being away from my children and away from home so I decided to be a stay at home mom again. It's the job I love best!!!
I only ever wanted to be a mum, due to my childhood, i think i needed to prove to myself that it didnt have to be like that. Since then i have mostly been a carer, but i wouldnt be anything else, i adore my job. :-D
DR you are my hero Don't tell Dooley or she may fire Chance and give you a real job, minding the bridge
