huh - I got some mint as ground cover because normally nothing bothers it. The lower leaves have been completely munched on down to the stems. I have been using diatomaceous earth all around my flowers (and doorway etc) so I don't think it would be slugs or any ground-dwelling little pest?

Just a "huh" kinda question. I don't use the mint for anything, so no biggie....curious...?

Cabbage loopers? Just a thought. Have you tried sticky paper to catch the culprits.

For earwigs mix a little molasses and oil and put it in a lid around your plants. It worked for me.
It might be grasshoppers eating your mint. They have all the leaves off of my apple mint. There are some huge ones out there now.

I haven't seen any grasshoppers. Lots of icky, creepy earwigs. I was hoping the DE would take care of them. YUK! <~shiver~>
I'll try the molasses - probably the same idea as sticky paper...? ...as long as my dog doesn't try to eat it. THAT could cause an - um...mess...LOL

I knew this year would be a battle. There are 50 times more nasties out there this year with the abnormally mild winter we had. A lot of the trees are already dropping their leaves.

Although I did find a nest of baby fireflies! They were sooooo tiny!! :D
