Something is eating my beans. Have not seen a bug chewing. However, some of the beans that managed t get leaves do have some holes in them. Not all the beans are affected. Yes, there are a lot of rockes in the garden, but they never have been a poblem...they provide lots of heat Bean sprout chewed up ( photo / image / picture from Chrisle's Garden )
Possibly Roley poleys? Or some call them Mealy bugs? Those little critters that roll up when disturbed. Dig down a little way and you will see if any are there. They serve a good purpose, but they also will eat some vegetable matter.
Thanks for the suggestions. I went out and dug down into the dirt and not a bug of any kind to be found. :-? The ones that are up and have larger leaves seem to be ok. It is just the new sprouts that haven't come up as quick that seem to be affected. Thanks again I will keep on the look out to see if there is a wee bug in the hiding.
Doesn`t look like a bug to me. Looks like they were a bit damaged coming through those rocks. If you have had a bit of rain they are sometimes more tender than usual.
Some of my beans look like that. I gave credit to cold temperatures and lots of rain. They like the soil warm. They looked fine once they got their true leaves.
Aha Mart and Netty I think you both could be right. We have had a lot of rain and cold temps this spring. Actually everthing but the potatoes and peas are struggling. I have beans planted in 4 different places (I have 3 large gardens) and this particular spot is very rocky. I was out this evening and dusted with PTV as I notices some flea beetles. They were enjoying a lunch on them. Thanks so much for you help.
Don`t you love the weather ? I have two good size gardens,,green beans and corn were bumper crops,, peas didn`t didn`t do a thing. I think yours will be fine if weather gets better.
