What is your favorite edible from your garden?

For all you that grow veggies, fruits and herbs. What was your favorite home grown edible this year? Did you try anything new?

For me this year I planted several new things..but my favorite has to be the fairytale eggplant. This one you pic at about 4 inches and they are so good. They do not have the bitter taste some eggplants have and you can eat the skin and all on them. I have tried them sauted with onions, garlic and zuhini. I have also had them just cut into bits size pieces and steamed....such good flavor and a really easy and prolific plant to grow.

I also tried sungold cherry tomatoes first time this year and they are a wonderful variety also that I will save seeds from.

So what is your fave from your garden this year?

 

Yes it really is hard to choose isnt it I am really enjoying my rhubarb also and raspberrys and blackberries, strawberries...peppers, yard long beans.

This was my first year trying the fairytale eggplant and wow I just love it

 

Didn't do much this year except tomatoes. Love them 'maters

 

My best grow this year was the Queensland Blue pumpkin. 22 huge pumpkins from 1 plant!

 

wow that is great....are they tasty too?

Next year I would like to grow some sugar baby pumpkins. I didnt get around to it this year.

 

Queensland blue pumpkins taste wonderful. Make great soup, and roasted, yum....

Haven't heard of Sugar Baby Pumpkins. Sugar Baby Watermelons, now they're lovely. This is making me hungry...

 

i looked up the Queensland Blue pumpkin and they look great! If you want to make a trade for some seeds I would be honored.

I plant only favorite edibles.

I force feed string beans cause they are healthy stuff.

Sorry, but I'd be worried about seed swapping. australia has very few virus', and seeds are a great way to transport some nasty bugs as well. i know seed companies here have to coat seeds in fungicide as well to protect them during storage.

I think seed swapping sounds great, but have no idea about the legalities of swapping out of the state.

Container tomatoes and lettuce

We grew some tomatoes and lettuce. I've grown tomatoes many times earlier, but for the first time I tried to grow some of my tomatoes in a hanging container. It's partly been a success, though the result hasn't been quite as good as I've hoped.

The lettuce made some wonderful salads - together with some of the carrots from our garden. :-D Unfortunately, after a while, some of the lettuce got eaten by slugs. But now I've made some protection so that the slugs can't get to the lettuce and eat it. :-D
