What kind of bug is this?

    My husband and son found this bug on a tree today...i have some pics of it and video as well. Though I have no idea how to upload a video to Gardenstew.

    it appears to be a Ichneumon wasp, and it was laying eggs. All I know it is ugly and very strange.

    Eeeew, looked like a new light fixture at first. Nature can be beautiful then she throws a few "Ha, wait until you see this!!" features at you to keep it real. ;)

    Looks like she (Mother Nature) threw in all the left over stuff she had laying around to make that bug! Wow... Did you about flip when you saw it??? I would have! Then I would have run in to get the camera, just like you! That is AMAZING.

    Rather wretched looking! And was laying eggs, so you will have some more! :p You're right DB, a little bit of this, a wing off of that, eye from this! Yuck!

    My husband is the one who flipped, ran in the house to get me. I ran out with my camera in hand. It is certainly the ugliest thing that i have seen. And to find out what it was i googled " ugly bug with really long tail". And that thing popped right up!

    that bug is about the size you see in the pictures...over 4 inches total length when the tail thing isn't pulling eggs out of its body.

    You have to remember that you must have two of them, now that would be a pretty sight to see, double the pleasure. :D :D :D .

    Wow! I thought it was some sort of garden ornament
    attached to that tree. That wasp is something from
    one of my nightmares!
