I post lots of fotos from time to time of my gardens and flowers...but my fellow allotmenteers also have things to show. Take for instance this ridiculously huge Calabrese head that Hetty cut yesterday. She was growing it in the ground where the compost bin had been sitting the year before. ...and before Peter left for holidays, he harvested these Frieslanders! Is this a harvest 'er wot! It's a real Spud-er-rama. I wonder how many kilos that was in total.
Well I always said that compost was great for growing plants and that Calabrese of Hettry's certainly proves it doesn't it? Peter has enough potatoes there to keep him going for quite a while. Fresh veggies, home grown are just THE best.
Wow Peter has done well. I'm gonna have to try us some potataoes next year. And that calabrese steamed up in a pot looks good enough to eat, mmmm.
Yummy! I'm so sorry I can't plant anything where the compost bins were sitting last year. I really like calabrese and butter. Those potatoes could be the main course. You've got some amazing growers around you, Sjoerd.
Well your neighbours are just showing off! Fantastic produce, which I could grow calabrese like that. Mine never heads up that big. And the spuds look devine. Bet they were so tender with a pound of butter melted over them.
Produce Sjoerd, again my broccoli is as large as that, only without heads! Where are they? I'd sure like a lot big enough to grow those. Well, we work with what we've got and try to be content. Gardengater
Well GardenGater... I am having probs here too. However I think that I have solved my problem--or discovered what it is, to be more precise. For the firest time I did not cover my brassicas with enviromesh this year, only a small-holed net. It was not sufficient and I had an attack of the larva of a particular moth. they ate out the hearts of many plants so thoroughly that it looked as if someone had rasped the heart away with sandpaper. Now I'm hoping fir side shutes.
I'm sorry to hear that. Let us know if the side shoots develop. I have to shop for that enviromesh too. Keep us up on your progress too. . Gardengater, Carol
