What products do you refuse to buy because of their ads?

When I see an advertisement directed to people with an IQ of 64 or less, I refuse to buy there product. An example is the Jerks dressed as the sun and planets falling around because they didn't have there Jimmy Dean's sausage. Well guess what, no JD sausage for me. Then there is the programing directed at the same group of people. I end up watching old programs on Youtube. Am I a screwball or do I need a time machine or what.

I'm with you! I feel the same way about the Sonic advertisements with the 2 stupid guys. I know there are others but this is first one that comes to mind! ;)

OH, yes, that Sonic commercial with the two idiots (perhaps their lack of good sense is due to their diet)is so annoying. As well as any commercial that has a little kid with a high-pitched voice saying something incomprehensible, or the baby talking (Hire Dumbo, he's my paw-paw!).
And frankly, I do not care about the bathroom habits of bears (a toilet paper commercial).
There is a life insurance commercial which has a woman say "That was quick, this is the check I've been waiting for." Now, does that make sense?
Ad agencies, and the companies that hire them, obviously have a very low opinion of the buying public.

I hate any advert that tries to con me into thinking something is on sale, when actually the original price is just inflated to make it look like a sale.

In the UK there has been a big investigation into 6 furniture companies who all use this tactic without being honest about how they come up with the inflated headline price.

The thing is a lot of people fall for it, because on the face of it, it does look like a bargain. :(

Nope, not a screwball just not the people the marketing bods were targeting.

The problem nowadays,I think,is that those companies are full of teenagers who don't understand that there are actually mature adults in the real world who have more than the one or two brain cells they possess...forgetting that the "grey £" or "grey $" probably has more spending power than the kiddies.

If you boycott a company on the strength of their ads then tell them or they won't ever change.Who knows, you might make a difference...

I was at the Pittsburgh Mills (a huge shopping complex) today at about 12:15. While setting in the car weighting for HW I could see a Sonic fast food joint. There were two cars at the drive through and three cars parked under the canopy. There must be a lot of people who are not sucked in buy there adds. :-D :-D :-D John

Well, at the age of 3 (in the late 1970s) I saw an ad on TV (of the Igloo Ice Cream Company). In it they showed a boy who eat the Igloo Ice Cream cone, and then was able to jump over 10 feet. But exactly what it meant in reality? I was unable to grasp (I think it probably was inspired by the TV show Six Million Dollar Man)...

Anyway long story short, I eat it too, and then tried to jump over 10 feet high as well - But failed... So since that day I learned that whatever I see on TV (specially in commercials) has to be taken with a pinch of salt... :D

However there are good adverts too, take Sprite for example - As they make ads which make fun of other ads, or real life characters! :D

But the ad which really took the cake has to be Nando's last Dictator Standing! :smt044

I, for one, love Sonic. Especially their drinks... I think the secret is the ice. So they can show whatever idiots they want... If I like something, I'm going to buy it whether I like their ads or not.
But I have avoided Quizno's sandwiches since they had those talking mice/rats as their spokes-rodents. Yuck.
But I don't mind the hamsters in that car commercial. :D

I have heard it said “Advertising is the tax you pay for being unmarketable.” and in some cases it is true. I am sure you have seen on TV, For a limited time we will send you X for $19.95 and if you call now we will send you two XX for $19.95. Whatever happened to truth in advertising and why has the consumer given up on quality?

I cant say Ive ever avoided buying something because of its ad, but there are a lot of ads I turn off when I hear them! Like diamond stores. I swear I cant turn on the radio anymore without hearing from some diamond seller. Irritates the heck out of me!

I'm pretty much with The Bip and Cherylad. If I like something, I'm going to buy it, regardless of what their advertising is like. But it doesn't stop me from complaining loudly if the ad is ridiculous, or turning the sound down on the TV, or switching channels if it's really annoying me.

Here in TN we have some of the most excruciatingly bad advertising. These down home folks for some reason think that they have to star in their own commercials, and they can't act for @#$%! It is actually embarrassing to watch them...and I can't. I'm very quick to go cycle the laundry or use the restroom or whatever will get me out of the room the fastest! ;)

I don't have a tv, so, I don't see all the crazy stupid ads anyway, but I also generally stay away from heavily advertised products knowing that the cost associated with advertising is most of the cost of the item. IF it was SO great I would buy it and so would everyone else without being coerced into spending my money on the item because of the ads.

Do you ever see coupons for anything basic anymore? flour, sugar, salt, etc? (Most of the items I buy never have coupons offered for the item. Most of the coupons offered are for ready to use, over-priced, non-essential to life items). Pizzas, granola bars, oven ready tv dinners, etc....

Excellent point Carolyn Keiper! Very well said indeed... These people (doing the advertising) are actually trying to make us into adicts of their product - So it is actually their one true wish that we (instead of trying to do something by our own hands), simply opt to buy their product instead and call it a day... Like an easy way out, a sort of "quick fix".

I myself became a Pizza addict this way (about 20+ years ago). But one day out of pure boredom I tried to make my own Pizza (as I was very upset at my favorite Pizza place closing down forever) - And you know what? What I made by my own hand tasted so much better, that till this day no one in my home ever orders a Pizza anymore - They instead shout at me to make them a few (at least once a week). :D

Really, what they make and sell on a commercial scale - Now tastes so bland and useless (as well as being overpriced), that it's only worth spitting at in my opinion. And so certainly not at all suitable to spend money at... Besides, I being a germaphobe by nature also means that I can sleep a lot easy too - After eating what I made under my own super clean conditions, (instead of being forced to put my trust in some far off factory that I may never ever get to see or inspect)...

Carolyn, pizza is "non-essential"? Not in my household!
I do agree that the lack of useful coupons has become common. I used to get coupons for flour. When was the last time you saw one of those?
I nearly cry when I see a young mother checking out at the grocery with a cart full of ready-made meals, sugary drinks, and no fruit, no real vegetables, and no ingredients like flour or cornmeal or anything of the sort.
I saw an ad for a breakfast drink--chocolate of course, that got requisite vitamins etc. into your child "on the run." So get up a half-hour earlier!

I hope I don't morph this thread but did you ever try pizza in a smoker?
