This is one of the little fruit trees my brother planted in early spring. When I was watering it the other day, I couldn't help but notice the drastic difference between "water & none". drought ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Our weatherman last night said that 89% of Texas is in an Extreme Drought and 65% is in an Exceptional Drought (which is the highest designation) and that includes your area. We are now in the Moderate situation but quickly heading into the Severe level. http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html With the hot, dry, strong winds we have been having lately the ground moisture is drying out quickly....I have never seen Zinnias wilt and fall over like they are doing this month.
That is so sad. I wish I could have sent all our extra spring rain to you. We sure had more than our share. We had yours too. Sorry.
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/e ... ought.html Not likely to get better anytime this year either.
Weatherman is calling for rain 3-4 days next week... well anywhere from 20-40%. I don't know if they are doing it just to give us hope! But at least there's a "chance" in the forecast. I think it's time for another group finger crossing! Oh yeah... and the other day... a neighbor 2 driveways down was out burning branches/leaves/trash... RIGHT on the ground! I spotted him on my way to work. Promptly turned around and came home and call the sheriff's dept. to report him! I sure hope they came out and gave him a big ol' fine or something! Darn idiot! :-x
I've told Mother Nature to stop dumping ll the rain here in Scotland and to send it off to you Cheryl. I could do with some dry weather just for a change.
Oh, dear, that yellow grass is a sad sight indeed. I wish the wetness could be more fairly distributed and do hope that you'll get some decent rains soon.
Oh my gosh, re: that neighbor burning things.... what in world was he thinking? With the wild fires burning out of control in AZ and NM all over the news, you'd think he'd have more sense... Good thing you saw him.
Daisy... this guy was already on my "keep an on that one" list. Had to chase him off our property THREE times. He was burning one other time, just after it rained, so I didn't do anything... should have, but just let it slide. But the other day... not a second thought about reporting him! Heck.... we're cautious/nervous about starting charcoal for the BBQ grill!
Satellite pictures of the Earth give well defined pictures of rivers traversing arid regions. The difference between green and the surrounding brown area is remarkable. Water is truly the giver of life. Jerry
Sometimes it seems like a few good hurricanes are what is needed to get rain to Texas and the other southwest states.. Hard on people living on the coast, but needed elsewhere. It is not officially a 'drought' up here yet because we had all that flooding in April and early May, but things are bone dry up here. The moisture dries up really fast in Missouri. We are nowhere near the northern flooding down here. I hope relief comes soon down there. There is tropical storm on the west coast of Mexico. Maybe it will help out.
Wow, again. I sure wish I could have sent you that 2.5" of rain we got this afternoon! just not as quick as what we got it.
There was a fire somewhere close to here last night. You could smell smoke when you stepped out the door and even in the house it was making my eyes water a bit. They must have gotten it out though because it's all gone this morning. Burn bans are only for some people I guess. dooley
Glad it was put out and didn't get closer to you, Dooley. It's a scary feeling knowing that a fire is "on the loose".
