We have bricks all over the place. Many, many years ago a brick maker lived on this property. And no matter where I dig I find bricks. I have flower beds boarded with them, sidewalks made out of them and today I decided to put the rest to use. The black thing in the middle is one of those new smart pots. I just have to fill it with soil. Maybe tomorrow.

I would say ship them to me but I don't think I could afford the postage. Path edges, stand them on end and paint them to look like books for a garden display (saw that on Pinterest and am hoping to get some made for my oldest daughter who is an avid reader), make a multi-sided stack of them (hollow in the middle) place a shallow bowl on top nestled into the hollow section and make a bird bath or feeder, stack them in a chair shape and put all weather pillows on it for a comfy garden seat.

Okay... first thing... what is a "smart pot"?
And bricks, I have. We used to have a brick company... not making them... but laying them. I have a small pile and use them here and there. My aunt just told me to come get a stack she has at her house. I don't have any plans for them but they are handy to have around for this and that.
Glad you found a good use for yours!

It's a breathable container or aeration container. It's a porous fabric that releases heat and promotes root growth.
I bought it in Ca. at a place going out of business for half price. They come in all shapes ad sizes. Check out www.smartpots.com

Donna, when we moved here there were two pallets of bricks in front of the barn. Slowly they have become edging for gardens, supports for pots, and occasionally a flying object if a feral cat gets too close to the chicken coop.
I like your compost patio. I have to ask--did you actually lay bricks in a circular pattern under that smartpot? If so, you may have a very profitable second career!

No bricks under pot, just around it. I still have a couple more loads to put in there when I have the energy.

Donna, I love learning something new. Do you know the life expectancy of the smart pots?

When we moved into our cottage we found lots of brick paths under the soil. We dug them up and stored them. Many years later we decided to build a pond. We used the bricks to make an underground retaining wall. Now no plant roots can get through the soil to damage the membrane in the pond. I love bricks - especially when they're free. :-D
