Hi all: one my favorite toys to play with and collect was statue horses. I have always loved horses since I can remember. Not sure why since I grew up in the city. But I have always loved them. I'll post on old photo of me and my horse collection later. So what was your favorite toy? :stew1:

I was always something of a tomboy, and my favorite toy was a "frontier town" with tin buildings (general store, livery, even a saloon!) that had horses with removable saddles, grain sacks, cowboys, fences, but no floozies. I played with it outside in summer, inside in winter, and enjoyed it so much. My mom got frustrated when I ignored the beautiful doll at Christmas, and went for a book or a horse statue.

In a family of 7 children, most of our toys didn't last very long. So we had to make do with the dogs, cats and horses as our entertainment. as we got older my mom let us target practice with handguns  I look back at that and wonder if she was out of her mind. We didn't think anything of it.

I had two favorite toys, my bicycle and books. I had a couple of dolls when I was young but they just sat on my bed, With my bicycle I could wander where ever my legs would take me and I could get away from my little brother. I would take the city bus to the library every other Saturday, spend the day there wandering around and reading then take the last bus home with a stack of books.

Learning how to properly handle and use a handgun is one of the best things she taught you. You might not ever touch another one but you learned to respect them, that they are not toys to play cops and robbers with and were less likely to accidentally shoot yourself or a playmate.

Roller skates were my favourite. My parents didn't have money to buy us bikes but those skates were adjutable so fitted both of my sisters and myself. Boy the fights we had about who was going to get a 'sjot' of them first. We also had hula hoops and a long skipping rope that we thoroughly enjoyed playing with.

A simple wooden cart with wooden blocks of various shapes and colours. One of those toys that allows you to use your imagination and invent new games. This was my favourite toy, and that's something coming from someone who grew up in Nintendoland!

Wendy Susan, my teddy bear, was with me a long time, had tea and cookies with me more than anyone else I know, tucked me in bed. She sat quietly for many years while I had all my teen angst, then helped me get through college, along with Isabel, my mother's favorite doll.
But she did not survive being put in my nieces bed one night. After her nose was bit off, no plastic surgery worked, and she eventually needed to be put to sleep. She may be waiting for me still.

I had mostly hand-me-down toys from my 2 older brothers. So I was quite happy if they still worked by the time I got them. But when I was about 13 or 14 I got a brand new bicycle for Christmas. It was a really nice one and was well balanced. I could even ride it without touching the handlebars. I rode that for years until I joined the Navy at age 18. Wish I still had it. It was made in West Germany.

Can't really say as they was toys. Dogs, to hunt and play with. Guns to hunt with. Hoe's, spade's, shovel's, etc. I didn't know it was work then. I just had fun in the garden. Fishin' pole's. Baseball gloves and bats. The feel of a double bit axe biting wood.

You've given me too much to think about. Thanks for the boat oar in the memory bank pool. :D

Stuffed animals, and homemade stick horses the I and friends made ourselves. Left lots of time for pretending and romping around by the creeks.

As the oldest of 6...there was always someone around to play cards or games. I remember playing a lot of Candyland, Mononopoly, Go To The Head of the Class.
Now as adults when we get together we still play cards and games.

A grape vine that we could use to swing over the lake with. It was 30 or 40 feet long. Great fun.

Cars n' trucks, climbing trees, playing in the dirt, horseback riding, and collecting small animals.....I was a tomboy. Growing up on a farm, there wasn't any kids around to play with except my little brother so we found things to do. Boy oh, boy did we have fun from sun-up to sun-down.

My very, very favorite toy was a cardboard box.... it could become anything: a house, car, ship, castle, etc. Super cool toy. :)

Wow how neat to hear of all the things we played with or had fun with as kids. I to was more of a tom boy. One of my favorite things to do on a windy day was to go to the park and climb up the tallest tree I could get into. Then I would sit in the highest branch's and just let the wind blow me back and forth. :-D It was great fun. But if my Mom would have seen me she would have had this type of expression on her face  .

Marlingardener: I would have liked plyaing with that frontier town also. I was not much of a doll person either. Except when I got older and played with Barbie dolls sometimes.

Carolyn:  Not so sure about the handgun thing.
You know the old joke about when your mom was really frustrated with you she might tell you to go out and play in the traffic. :D

    thepondlady: sounds like me.

eileen: yup I enjoy roller skating also. When I was in the 8th grade my girl friend and I would walk to the roller rink on Fri. nights and go skating indoors.
That's how I got my nose broken. We really enjoyed skating.

Frank: ah yes. An imagination. Not to many kids have those these days. Our imagination could take you anywhere and make you anybody.

Karrma: I to had favorite stuffed animals. I would place them around me at night when I slept. I believed they kept me safe. Your Wendy Susan Teddy bear sounds like on I found at a Teddy Bear show last year. It has a rubber face and a lot of the fur has been loved off this cute bear. I still collect and make Teddy Bears. :-D

Capt. Kirk: yup a bike can take you to many neat places. My bike and I would ride out to my friends farm and spend the day playing with all the animals and swinging on the rope in the hay mow. Kids now a days have no idea of what fun is.

fatbaldguy: glad it stirred up some good memories. When I was younger we couldn't have a dog so I played with all the neighbors dogs. Such fun.

Jewell: When I was young we had a huge cemetery to play in. Never damaged anything just enjoyed the big trees and the river that ran behind it. Also the railroad tracks that were behind it also. Us kids even walked across a small train tressel. My mom would have fainted if she would have known. ;)

gfreiherr: We to as kids played a lot of the same games. When everyone was out of the house and still alive. We would gather at the holidays at Mom's and play games. Especially on called "Pit". It is noisy, crazy, and a lot of fun.

Cayuga Morning: that does sound like fun. I have always loved swimming.

Supersweetmom: I bet you two had a lot of great fun. Like I said before. I would bike out to some friends farm and spend the day having a blast with them and all the animals.
