Now I'm not assuming everyone drives (I don't for one) but I'm sure a lot of you do and have fond memories of your first car. Was it an embarassment or a scorcher? The first car I can remember is my father's Ford Escort from when I was little. It was a striking metallic blue with the a black plastic covered cab which looked rather fetching. Now everytime I see an old Ford Escort I get goosepimples My cousin also used to have a baby blue coloured Beetle which was really great. I used to love going for spins in it and trying to get my head around the fact that the engine was in the boot
My first car was a 1953 ford, two-tone blue. I was 20 yrs old and paid for it myself. I learned to drive on a Chevy Corvair which belonged to my brother. I still owned the ford when we got married and moved to Philadelphia, Pa. We owned several used cars before we bought a new Jeep in 1967. We've owned American Motors or Chrysler products since them because we get employees discount. My sons were all university or the military before any of them got a driver's liscense. Driving wasn't the first priority with them. Now, we need a car to go shopping because it's 25 to 30 miles but we've been trying to walk more around town. My son rides his bicycle to work. He's very happy not to be driving 120 miles round trip per day to work. Dooley
The first car my family had was a Morris Mini Traveller - pale blue - I loved it. In fact, I passed my test in it!!!! The first car Ian and I had was an old, white Beetle. I cried when she had to be taken away to the scrap yard as she gave us so much pleasure. That car had guts - she used to take five of us + all our holiday gear. (Which included a 6 man tent, table, chairs, camping kitchen, sleeping bags and blow-up beds!!!) Never had another car quite like her. We now have a Renault Kangoo 4x4 - navy blue. Plenty of room but a bit greedy with petrol.
The first car I ever drove was a 1952 Studebaker. It had a bullet nose on it and rode like a logwagon. I took my drivers test in it and passed. The first car I ever owned was an old Morris Minor. Only had it for about 3 months. The generator went out in it and couldn't find a replacement for it. Weren't many of those over here then. But I only paid $100 for it, so it wasn't a big investment! :?
I didn't learn to drive until I was about 22 1/2 which is old in the US. My first car was a blue '94 Geo Metro....it is fantastic on gasoline and mileage and it has lower emissions than the big cars. It was a great car! I was noticing how many of us on here seemed to have "blue" cars as our first car!!! Interesting!
I was going crazy for a car of my own since I was 14 but dad kept telling me to wait. Well not come right out with the words wait but those words of wisdom when I had him look at a car I wanted. Like a 1957 red Pontiac convertable. Son it really needs a new top and exhust system, why don't we check to see what those cost he said. I ended up two years latter with a 1958 Ford Fairlane two tone Gray with a white top 4dr hard top. It had a 352 CID police ineceptor engine that put out 360 hourse power and a Fordamatic trans. Great car, I'll always remember. Sat so low I knocked the oil pan drain plug off with a rock in the road going to my work. Today I have had many cars, suvs and trucks but that Old Ford will for ever be my #1 favorite. Today I drive what I believe will be my last truck. I expect to live for a long time yet but i think this truck is that good it will last a long time. Al
Our first car as a married couple was my husband's 68 Ford Galaxy. It was awful. My Mother lived on a dirt road at the time and every time we went to visit the road dust rolled into the car through all of the rust holes. That was in 1974. My husband then bought a used car for us a Chevy Vega - I was mad for quite a while at him about that because I didn't know how to drive a stick shift and didn't want to tell him.
First car I ever drove was a 1938 Plymouth sedan, at a friends place out in the country. First car I owned was a 1950 Chevrolet 2 door hardtop convertable, their first of that type.Favorite vehicle, our current Dodge Ram Pickup truck.
I saved up money at a summer job in high school and bought a Subaru Golf cheap because it had been rolled. The interior was perfect and it ran great, but the exterior looked like it had been used in a Samsonite luggage commercial, or jumped on by gorillas. It was always easy to find it in a parking lot because it was the only one with a 'corrugated' roof. I kept it - dents and all - until I moved to California in college, when I swapped it with my brother's Honda accord because the Subaru had a great heater but no a/c. He did the body work necessary to fix it up and sold it to get a Goldwing motorbike. I had that Honda for years and years...we only had to junk it a couple years ago because some high-school kids rear-ended it and bent the frame.
The first car my hubby and I owned (As I didn't have one before)was a 1954 chevy purple convertable with one red door.Don't laugh it served us well.It cost $175.00 and we had to pay that out.lol The car I past my test in was a 1954 Chevy it was a rusty orange and white. It was my dad's car
Mine was an 84 Toyota Cressida..it had about 164,000 miles on it, hail damaged. it even had a sweet velvet bumper and a moonroof! top of the line back in the day i guess. it leaked oil so i had to keep about 5 quarts in the trunk at all times. haha looks like im the youngest one here... '84 doesnt seem so old anymore .hehe
We had a few old cars to numerous to name all .Mostly junkers but they got us most of the time where we were headed.Frank the first new car we bought was an 87 Ford Escort stick shift.I loved it too.
