I was thinking. Hmmmmmm............ Every one here seems to be so versatile and talented in many areas, however there are some things I would love to improve on. I would like to be able to take a better photo, be more organized and get back into painting. I get a lot of inspiration from folks on here. Now I just need to get motivated. As far as the photos go I can learn a lot on the net and my daughter is a pretty good photographer but my hands tremble so much my photos turn out fuzzy most of the time. I could use a tri pod but for me that takes the fun out of it. As bad as I temble tho, I can paint miniatures with no problem. The moment my brush touches , the shaking stops....wonder why?

This got me thinking DF. Personally I guess what motivates me is trying to be as independent as possible. If boring stuff like learning to do my own accounting helps me stand on my own two feet that little bit more I'll do it. The thrill of not having to pester someone for answers but rather provide the answers is a real motivator.

As far as your photography woes are concerned I'm sure you will find a way around it. I'm not much of a photography expert but I do believe you should be able to find a camera to tackle particular issues. For instance I think a camera with a high shutter speed would cut down on blur due to slight movements like trembling (maybe someone more enlightened can confirm this?). Go for it!

I wish I had a better singing voice, but not much I can do to change heredity. Have already had lessons, and they didn't do much good! LOL

Everything I do, I do marginally well. I wish I could be really good at something, good enough that maybe I could even make a job of it. *sigh* owell. doomed to mediocrity!

I wish I were more structured and better at finishing one project before starting on the next one. The older I get, the worse I become.

LOL, I actually bought "The Idiots Guide To Overcoming Procrastination" but I haven't read it yet. That was a few years ago

I empathize with the wanting to paint better - I was just dreaming over some night classes at the local college that offer watercolor, one of these days...

I would love to play a musical instrument well enough to accompany singing, all I can do now is kazoo and very pathetic autoharp.

What motivates? Deadlines do - I have diddled around on wanting to teach a church history class and now I have a deadline, I'm starting in October, so I've been reading and researching like mad for the last two months! I love history, and this really got me studying things I had 'meant to get around to' for a long time.

I guess now I need someone to give me a deadline on watercolors.

The Procrastinators and Un-Finishers Anonymous hereby gives Primsong until Christmas to learn more watercolor!

There you go, Primsong, satisfied? :)

I must order it from my favorite web bookshop! At least it can sit on my bedside table and motivate me.

And Primsong, instructional DVD's are way cheaper than workshops and unlike instructors, you can back 'em up and watch again! I've even left them playing while I do housework, sorta like maybe something subliminal will seep in :p Of course I wouldn't dream of imposing a deadline on top of a big task like that, whew!
Too funny about the procrastinators book lying around for years!!

I guess I have to agree. Deadlines motivate me and I work great under last minute pressure. Primsong, just start painting and keep going! I taught myself, started out with oils. You will get better! I love working with acrylics now because they dry so fast. I usually have a hair dryer on hand too to dry them faster. And I'm with you Critterpainter, I can do a lot of things pretty good but havent mastered anything that I know of. I'll bet there's more than one of us that could qualify as a "Jack of all trades master of nothing" But most of the people I know with a few exceptions can't even do a few things well. They don't even try they just call me so I tried to teach my kids to think and do for themselves. The people here on this forum are a do-it-youself-ers, you can tell.

I know this is kind of changing the subject but I wish I was better at making healthy choices. I've fought my weight my entire life and it just boils down to bad choices :( For example, I love blue cheese dressing on my salad. I should try something less fattening but... I love buttered movie-theater popcorn. Think I can go to the movies and not get buttered popcorn? NOPE! Sounds simple but anyone who has ever had a weight/eating issue knows it ain't that easy

I think it takes something to really shake your world to give you what it takes to lose weight. For me, it was out-of-control high blood pressure. I whined, but I changed, and I lost nearly 40 lbs. It's rotten having to think about it all the time! But there are so many things I learned along the way, like I have to avoid processed sugar like the plague- it actually makes me eat more! And fluffy white bread just gags me now. DS doesn't much care for the changes, but he can go out with friends so he'll just have to live with it at home.
So, I guess the "what motivates you" upshot for me was the threat of worse-than-death. (I already had a massive stroke because of an arterial deformity, that took away my freedom to go where I want. Another would likely leave me unable to even do my gardening & definitely not my painting!)
But, oo, I'm a hottie now, lol!
