We started the day by picking strawberries. these are from the high tunnels, not outside. We picked 29 today. Oh, Carolyn, how lovely! Especially those strawberries. Between you and Sjoerd, I think I need to look into planting strawberries next year. Our broccoli is just about finished--still getting little side shoots, but they will be too small to bother with in a week or so. Our squash is growing like mad--took a dozen into town today to give away (yes, there are good-hearted folks who won't say no to a few squash ). We have Sungold tomatoes ripe, but the bigger ones are still green and hard. We have one green bell pepper so far, which is just about as big as a billiard ball. Our corn is tasseling, and as soon as the rows are dry enough for me to tromp up and down, I will put some vegetable oil drops on the silks.
Great looking harvest! I've picked a couple of peppers and one tiny spicy bell pepper. My stupid tomato plant still hasn't started to make fruit, but there are flowers. The cantaloupes are growing like mad... lots of flowers, but alas... no fruit forming yet. I probably have a couple of strawberries that are ready for picking and I'm afraid that the blackberries are pretty much done after I pick this batch.
Wow--those punnets of strawbs look quite nice stalled out there. The toms, peas and calabrese make my mouth water. This was a great posting. That is a very nice field of peppers and toms. Quite professional-looking.
My mouth is watering. It will be weeks before I get strawberries. You have motivated me to go home and get the peas in the ground. I love spring and summer produce.....My I need to make a high/low tunnel for use in the fall...You are inspiring me.
This in no way even gets close to the lovely fruit and veggies you all are showing... but it is my last batch of blackberries. I have 3 quarts in the freezer and gave 2 quarts to my brother. These will be eaten all by themselves... all by little ol' me! Last of my blackberries ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Thanks. I didn't think Spring was ever going to get here and it didn't we went right to Summer from Winter. We are getting caught up, but there are things that never went into the garden even close to on time... like my potatoes. they just went in yesterday. Thats like 2 months late. Kevin pushes and pushes to get things in on time. Good for you Jane. Sungold is one I am planting this year. everyone says what yummy fruits they are, I can't hardly wait to taste them. our corn is about 3" tall. needs fertilized. Have you tried spinosad on the cornsilks. We did it last year, but I think the year was so cold there weren't many worms on them. Cheryl... I hope my one lone spicey bell makes it. It is so little, I dont' know if it will produce anything. those berries look yummy. I don't grow them, so I don't get them to eat. S, I told you I would show you my berries, but there is no short cake to go with them. I sold them all, every last pint. nor did I have time to make it, either. Maybe later. Yes, Jewell....make a low/high tunnel...whatever you can do to protect your crop and extend the season.
