Dooley what are the purple berries? I'm always on the look out for plants that bear fruit in the autumn/winter.

Looking good, especially those Pyracantha berries.
I'd like to plant one in my yard, but I can't find the right "out-of-the-way" spot.
There are some awesome weeping specimens that I've seen around here.

I've been sorely tempted to creep out, late at night, with my trusty clippers . . . [IMG]

. . . but that would just be wrong, huh? [IMG]

Eileen, the bush was here when we moved here but I was told it was a Japonica. I looked on google and it appears to be a Lonicera Japonica, also known as Japanese honeysuckle. There are many growing in the neighborhood. It gets white flowers in the spring that smell great. It also gets very big if you don't keep them pruned down to size. The birds love the berries as well as the pyracantha berries. They will nest in the bushes if they get tall enough. Dooley

The blue berries look like Indian Hawthorne to me. And of course the evil pyracantha redeems itself. Evil plants!

Not bad for late in the season - late fall color is always a bit sparse it seems. Nice, plump berries, for happy birds. :)

I was out this morning. There is a stray cosmos or two, a coreopsis, a few petunias, a stray morning glory and a ton of calendula. Calendula seems to stay all year even below freezing times. It's orange and yellow and gives a spot of color. Of course, it reseeds and spreads all over but that's okay. I never pull things that want to grow and give me flowers. I have kale in my garden that I planted the first year we lived here. It just keeps reseeding and growing every year. Oh, I wonder if my carrots are big enough to pull. I forgot about them. I have swiss chard, oregano, still some basil, thyme, sage, bee balm, lemon balm, coriander and a few tomatoes that have no chance of getting ripe. We haven't had a killing frost yet. Maybe their warmer than normal winter prediction will be right. Dooley
