Drop a glove. The mornings have been chilly and I've been wearing a pair of light woolen gloves to feed the ladies and clean the coop. This morning I felt a sneeze coming on and took off a glove to grope for my hanky. I dropped the glove.
My hens are used to food falling out of the sky, and one immediately grabbed the glove and started a game of keep-away. The other hens chased her, sure she had something delicious to eat, and I chased the flock, trying to get my glove back. I was doing fine until they left the inside coop and went outside. I can't fit in the outside coop.
I had no idea what wool would do to the internal plumbing of a chicken, and no desire to find out. I got some scratch and sprinkled it inside, calling them all the while. All of them came back inside except the one with the glove ( think she must have seen a Michael Jackson video at some time and liked that one-glove thing). I finally got a long-handled rake and raked my glove back inside.
I don't think I'll be wearing that glove anytime soon.

Chuckle, chuckle. I don't think that the wool would hurt them any, though. But that would be a waste of a perfectly good glove. Glad you got it back. My girls love styrofoam.....I had a sheet of insulating foam by the back of the coop and I found them outside of the fence pecking away at it. They all survived.

Where is the video camera when you need one!!!

If she had eaten that glove do you think her eggs would have come out wrapped in a woolen 'egg cozy' ?

No, Toni, but her eggs might have had five fingers.

Marlingardener that is way to funny :D :D I know putting fiber in ones diet is good for you. But not quite that much fiber. A video would have been really great.
My sister use to a dog that would eat her mittens, scarves and underwear if left lying about.

I can picture the chickens making their escape to the outside coop. I'm saving that story.

Well, Sjoerd, would you want to put something on your hand that had been dragged through a chicken coop? I think I'll retire that glove . . . .

Silly hens :) Stuff the glove, put it on a stick, draw a mean face on it with a sharpie, and set it outside the coop to scare raccoons? It probably won't work, but you'll have a good story for anyone who asks :)
