Need advice on harvesting cucumbers. First year to raise them, and have a formidable crop already. Planted and running up 10' poles, very healthy. Just need to know harvest procedures. Thanks, Gardenator
Go by their size, not whether they look ripe, and that depends on what you plan on doing with them. Most are best when picked at 4" or 5" long if you are going to use them in salads and such. For making sliced pickles pick them less than 4" long. For whole pickles I would go with about 2" to 3" long. If you are making pickle relish of any kind then the size isn't that important as long as they aren't really long. The really long ones can be really very bitter and tough.
