Hi just recently a small patch of land in my backyard opened up and i would love to grow goji berries. I live in zone 5 and was wondering if i grow them from seeds in the next week or so will they survive the winter? Also at what age do gogi plants start producing berries? Thanks
Goji berry plants can survive down to -15F. You can plant the seeds now as long as the weather isn't too cold for them to establish good root systems before winter settles in. They prefer full sun and will grow in almost any type of soil. Goji's are fairly drought tolerant plants but don't let them dry out too much or they may not produce flowers and fruits. The plants probably won't fruit in the first year but you should get a good crop from them in their second year. Once the begin to fruit they will continue to do so right up until the first frosts.
