If you've got the patience to grow trees from tiny saplings, those are only a year or two behind sprouting the seeds yourself. Look on the ground at the appropriate time under the trees you want to grow for their seeds.
For this year it has passed but next year Arbor day in North Carolina is celebrated on the Friday after March 15th. Many organizations participate in tree plantings and give aways. You may check with a local extension service for details. Jerry
Later in the season I may have red oaks. They some up rapidly under ours and are pretty fast growers.
I find saplings at the base of mature trees. Do you have any shade trees on your property that you could scour under? Or do friends?
would love to have some of the red oaksmart I will also check under friends trees didn't think about it
