This is the second one today and in the last few years the 150th. They just don't get the message that they are not wanted. I take them down to the woods bye the way.

I could do with a couple of those traps!! The squirrels cost me a small fortune in new feeders as they chew their way through them. Even the squirrel proof ones don't work as these pesky little devils always find a way to get to the food.
I'm glad you release them into the woods though instead of killing them.

Oh yes, I release them, I couldn't kill them. Even the bugs etc. that I photograph go on their way after the photo shoot.

Sounds like it is time for metal bird feeders to foil their dirty little plans. That is a great looking squirrel, I actually wish we had them here. Here we have a few chipmunks and some small squirrels but not very many. Wanna ship some my way? :D :D

150 Squirrels? Wow, if I had that many I'd do the same thing! Although I think that squirrels are like rats with fur coats on I could never kill them. I think the coyotes have taken care of all the squirrels around this area because I can't think of the last time I saw one.

We have at times been overrun by squirrels, they are cute chasing each other around but not so cute when chewing their way into your attic or store room.
Feeding nothing but Safflower seeds has inspired them to find a new yard to invade, plus one found out the hard way that the feral cats can kill them.

Not so sure what our neighbors do about them, but the population has diminished noticeably from a couple of years ago, so I think baked squirrel with beans and rice has probably been on the menu in a couple of local houses.

Wow!! I didn't know squirrels can be so destructive. :-o At the moment there are only a couple of them here and they are very much nicer to look at than those stinking rats. I am keeping my finger crossed that they would not multiply.

Kildale...I wonder how many of those 150 have been caught multiple times?????

KK...Squirrels are VERY destructive. The electric company had to replace the line from my house to the pole two different times, because the darn squirrels chewed through the line! They are cute chasing each other around...but you have to remember they are cousins to rats! To me that doesn't make them very cute!

Well if anyone does anything but trap and release them let me know. I need more tials for my fishing lures. I guess the little chipmunks and miniature squirrels we have here are just fine since the big cousins are so destructive.

I thought I had got a few days squirrel free when I took the third one this weekend down to the woods today, only to have another on the deck. So its open up the trap again.

I would be finding out how far you can take them to get rid of them. We can take opposum way out in the woods here along with racoon so they don't find their way back.

Kildale, we are going to beging this process soon. How far do we need to take them? Have you caught anything else in your trap? What is the best bait, looks like you had peanuts in there. My neighbor ended up with a skunk in his and it was an ordeal getting rid of him. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am so glad you posted this topic because we had been considering this for a while.

I only bought a small trap as there are other sizes. I think peanuts are the best bait, I have caught a few birds but I just open the trap and off they go. They don't get hurt at all. I try to keep it a short distance away from the bird feeders which I have on the sundeck. I take them a couple of miles away and as there is a four lane highway between me and them, I don't think they come back as it is a large rain forest where I drop them off.
