I have been lurking around this site for a little while, and have read a few posts by people who won't order from certain places. I am totally new to this gardening thing. What sites would you recommend, or which ones should I avoid? thanks in advance.

Ive gotten good plants from Michiganbulb and PapaGenos. Ive also ordered from audubonworkshop, tho Ive only gotten my Autumn Red Daylilies, but theyre doing well (from what I can see, I only planted em a few days ago ^_^ Tho they were already sprouted).

I love Cottage farms :D . They have a no questions asked one year guaranty. I tried to plant a shade garden last year and due to my Dad's health it died. I called to reorder everything and they just reshipped didn't even charge for shipping. I tried to explain that it was my fault, but they said if I had run over them with my pickup they would have replaced them. They didn't ask for the plants back or even shipping numbers  they had everything in their system. They just asked that I call for help if the plants started looking bad and tell everyone where I got them :-D .

I find that it is better for me to just buy my plants from local nurseries, especially the ones that are independently owned. Usually what they have there is what will grow in your zone, plus there is no shipping and handling charges that way. I am not saying I never order from catalogs, because I do, especially seeds.

I have a favorite greenhouse where I get most of my plants. And I like the seed swap forum here for the harder to get seeds. It has been years since I ordered any plants!

    Ordering plants...

Hi Greenie, Welcome to the site!

For references, you might enjoy having a gander at Dave's Garden Watchdog. Individuals can post their experiences about ordering from certain companies, many are listed, so you will likely find the company you are thinking about ordering from. You can quickly
tell that certain companies with a low rating are
not those you want to take a chance on.

I've had wonderful experiences with many, but
have my faves, here is one:
