White Butterfly Ginger - How It Got It's Name

    The White Butterfly Gingers are starting to bloom... and with this one, I can really tell how it got it's name!

    It resembled a butterfly so much, I almost posted it the "Wildlife" forum!

    And oh yeah... the scent is HEAVENLY!

    It certainly does look like a butterfly doesn't it? What a really attractive flower ... and it's white!! :D

    Oh I just love that!

    I have a white butterfly ginger I am growing in a pot, first time having a ginger..it is doing really well. Dont know if it will bloom this year or not but I love the foliage even.

    I am wondering though..how big do they get?

    They get about 3 foot tall... and can spread. So make sure you leave them some room.
    I can't wait for these to take over the area near the porch so every time I go up/down the steps, I'm hit with that sweet fragrance.

    I have to grow mine in a pot because I am zone 5 and will bring it in the house for the winter. It is almost 3 feet tall now...not sure if it will bloom this year or not.

    I love that Cheryl.I had a Hidden Lily
    Ginger.Its bloom came up before the foliage came up.It smelled so great.I had one in the yard and one in a pot and cold weather got both of mine I live in zone 8.

    I got these from one of my aunts last year. Her's aren't doing too well this year. Glad I've got them still growing since she said it came from one of her aunts who lived in Louisiana years ago.

    Sjoerd... I have about 3-4 growing at the family home. And I have a huge tub of them at my place. I think there's about 10 or so in there.
