To start-my battery died on my camera so I'll do the best I can. My winter sowing doesn't look like it went as well as planned. From what I can see so far I have 2 containers that have sprouted out of 10. Here's a few problems I see: 1.I used a permanent marker on the outside of my containers to mark whats inside. Over the winter the weather faded and now, I have no idea whats inside any of the containers. 2. I did put holes on the bottom of the container but should I have put air holes through the tops also?? 3. Now, how long should I wait to see if anything comes up in the rest of the containers? This was my first year doing container gardening through the winter. Doing this has been a good and fun learning experiance. I do know I want to do this again next year but will want to do a few things differant. If you have had any success, I'd like to jot down your ideas to help me out this next year. I also would enjoy seeing any picts you have of your successful containers.
Well so far all mine are still frozen,,lol. It will be another month before i see anything from them. But the snow is melting around them, and has melted on top of them,, i did put air holes ontop of mine when i put the name stick in,, thats all that was needed. But it looks like you got some growth there,, remember you don't get alot of seedlings this way,, only the strongest will come up. I say well done!
Petunia, I think you need to give it some more time. Your weather is usually similar to mine and there are very few established plants even showing new growth yet. Do you remember what you planted?
Hi Netty. Your question got me to thinkin 'why don't I look for the thread we did on winter sowing. I found it-I planted lillies, hollyhocks, coreopsis, hibiscus, angel trumpet plants and a mimosa tree seed. If the mimosa doesn't come up it may be alright, I have a few already coming up inside. Maybe one of those picts could be lilly because it seems it may be the tiger lilly that I may have planted.
