Hi, I am looking to buy a few of these shrubs for the coming year. Does anyone grow these? I am specifically looking for types that will bloom between may and september. Thanks
I have a couple in my garden Sjoerd and they manage to come through our harsh Scottish winters really well.
We have Mock Orange at work. They need very little care other than a bit of pruning. Seems to me they all bloom in June.
Well Netty, that's what I thought but a couple of gardners told me that they can bloom at different times, eg mid-late summer, sprong, mid spring and early summer. It depends on which type one has. I heard thet there are some sixty-odd different types. Whew!...that'll take some searching, won't it. heh heh heh. So I am planning to get 3-5 bushes and naturally I would like for them to bloom at different times. I shall put them upwind so that we can smell them whilst sitting on the tiny 'patio'. Naturally I am searching-around the internet for answers to my questions, but I was hoping that someone on here would have some personal experience. I always prefer personal experience if I can get it.
We have about 10 different ones, but they all flower at the same sort of time, in June. This is probably because the most available types are all forms of the same species. I did have P. microphyllus occidentalis, but even that one flowers in June.
As the others have said they bloom in June - as mine do. I never do anything with them except cut them back once a year in late autumn or early spring. I don't know which variety mine are as the magpies always remove the name tags from my plants. All I can tell you is they have the most beautiful white flowers.
Thanks folks... I'm getting there---Can you give me an idea as to the strongest-smelling variety and the one with the largest white flowers? Aren't those magpies hideous sometimes? They can be such tricksters can't they.

I think mine is called Minnesota Snowflake. It has grown into a HUGE shrub with large, double blooms and smells heavenly Deanna :-D
I put in a "Minnesota Snowflake" last year. It has yet to flower for me, but I'm very patient! I bought it because I'd never seen a double bloom on a Mock Orange but wondered if it would smell as good as the singles. Glad to hear yours smells heavenly Deanna!
