I am originally from Dallas and for years supported the Dallas Cowboys. The years of Roger Staubauch and on into the Troy Aikman era. But with all the bad publicity the team got with the antics of Michael Irvin and a few others, I dis-associated myself from the organization. I don't care for the owner and they have had their share of 'ho-hum' coaches. But with the new leadership of the Wade Phillips, the offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett and the fabulous new QB, Tony Romo, I am once again following the team and watching the games. I'm hoping this is the beginning of another new era of 'America's Team'. GO COWBOYS ... see you at the 'Super Bowl' :!:
Even living in Dallas 35 of the last 40 years, I just haven't gotten into being a Cowboy's fan or a fan of any other team either. The Tom Landry era was a time when you could be proud of being a Cowboy's fan, but when the new owner came along the team's abilities and morals crashed and burned.
You have hit upon a subject that is near and dear to me. I have feelings and opinions that run strong and deep, I could probably write pages on the subject. However I'll try to keep my answer to what the question was. I am a Green Bay Packer fan tried and true. I have been since before the Vince Lombardi era. I can remember rooting for Tobin Rote at Quarterback, and wondered when they drafted a guy named Bart Starr in like the 15th round of the draft. Through thick and thin I have watched or listened to the games. During the season family activities are scheduled around the Packer games. Why? well I suppose at first because they were the local team, but as years passed, no matter where I was, I held my loyalty for the Pack. Something about the history, and tradition, I guess. They have been Super Bowl Champions and have suffered through a season with only 1 win, and every where between. It doesn't matter, I'll be there hoping for a win each game. Mimi and I have breakfast with a small group of friends most mornings, and one of our members is Fred Borak, a former Packer player in 1938 on Curly Lambeau's team. Fred may just be the oldest living former player, at 94. He has a sharp memory, and is quite a story teller. As a side note Fred was at our home for the Packer game and dinner last Monday evening when we beat Denver in overtime. I could go on and on but I'll save that for another time. Tom
Cowboys I'm a Cowboys fan. I do not like the owner, Jerry Jones one bit. Seeing him on the field during games just aggravates me. He is not even a Texan, which really bothers a lot of us. I am a Cowboys' fan simply because they are the team, which represents Texas in a lot of respects.
I am a Cowboy Fan from way back .I do love them good or bad.I think there will never be a quarterback as good as Roger Staubauch.I loved to watch him play.
I am a hardcore, black an gold fan, growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsyvania. Go Steelers!! Waving my Terriable Towel, listened to Myron Cope on Sports, an how crazy he would get when they would make a touchdown. ahhh those were the days. The Iron Curtain. Three Rivers Stadium. Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, LC Greenwood, Lynn Swan, an so so many others..... Even when i moved away from the Golden Triangle, the Steelers were still my favorite team. I don't get to see american football now, but the Steelers live on in my heart.
Sorry to make you feel left our Droopy but don't feel alone, there are probably very few Stew members outside the U.S. who know what the NFL is. :-? National Football League. All of those teams play each other from late August thru early January. The two winningest teams face off in the Super Bowl at the end of January. Oh, and it bears no resemblence to Soccer which the Europeans call football.
Ah, football! I see. I know it's nothing like soccer, but that's all I know. And I've heard about the Super Bowl finals. I didn't exactly feel left out, because I enjoy people's excitement. Lots of people never get excited about anything. I just felt foreign. I'm not very into any sports, to be honest.
Hey Calomaar, Nice to know I'm not the only Packers fan here! How about that 4th quarter yesterday... Go-Pack-Go! Mike - TurningColorz
I live close to Green Bay and my husband is a Packer Fan and guess who decided to join in and cheer with him? I thought it would be nicer to sit and cheer with him than be in the other room like my Mom always was. Some of my favorite players have left here but I am sure I will find new ones. How about Brett Favre? WOW...what an arm, and some say he is too old..NO WAY...I hope they make it all the way this year. I don't understand everything about football and I find it hard to follow the ball at times but I am right there next to someone I want to be next to. I did meet Bart Star when I was in high school. GO GREEN BAY PACKERS..........Sherry8 :-D
Oh my I do not know much about the NFL - the only thing I do know is the Dallas Cowboys and only because a rugby player by the name of Naas Botha played for them as a kicker as well. Naas Botha used to be the Springbok flyhalf. (for those who do not know - he had a reputation for kicking a score up) I do not even know the rules. let alone a team.
