I remember that someone showed their upright blackberries with supports on both sides. But I can't remember who and couldn't find the posting. I've convinced my brother to let me put our blackberries in the ground (this winter) instead of the big container it's in now... but I need to show him the proper way of supporting them. Any help with this information would be greatly appreciate!
I don't have my blackberries anymore, so I don't have pics. But mine used to be supported by posts with wires running across them. Something like the two wire trellis in this link. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/hil/pdf/ag-401.pdf
Mine are tied here and there to a fence of 2x4 wire. Years ago, (and if I ever do it again)they were tied to two wires like grapes. These thornless ones I have must be supported or they get grass from the mower boy and dirt on the fruit. Easy to cut the spent canes off after picking is done and prune up the new ones. Remember to tie them like tomatoes, that is: tie tightly to the support and loosely around the plant.
Was it this posting that you were talking about, Cheryl? http://www.gardenstew.com/about21391-15.html I recall talking with you about blackberries once.
Yes! Thank you Sjoerd! That's the info I'm needing. Going to use the new "print" feature so I don't lose it again.
