I just transplanted it in fresh soil (1/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 top soil) in approximate amounts. The plant was doing really well 2 months ago The problem started before I transplanted and I figured that the problem was that the container was too small, but it is still slowly dying. I water approximately every other week and the past year I only fertilized it twice; once in September, and the most recent was April 8th with a basic 10-10-10NPK. I still keep it inside as it is still too cold to be put outside(50º here in NY). It seems like I can't find anything online that differentiates symptoms of overwatering or underwatering the plant. When I transplanted it, the soil didn't seem to smell foul, and the roots were still intact(when I rooted the crown last year, the whole bottom grew roots, but there is one half where the roots seemed to grow healthier than the rest) Here is a picture of it currently: http://imgur.com/Ca5Kv and this is the fertilizer i used. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LF ... 01_s00_i00 Thanks all for your help.
I have never grown a pineapple, so I am not much help, but it is a tropical plant and needs higher temps and humidity than what we have here. It does look like a lack of high humidity to me, BUT I could be wrong. Place it in a large plastic bag and mist it daily to see it that would help or run a humidifier in the room and raise the rooms humidity (which would be better and easier).
Have you googled "how to grow pineapples" or something similar to see what conditions they need to grow ? If you have a good bright window in your bathroom put it in there, keep the door closed and turn the shower on hot and let it run till the room steams up. Keep the door closed and the humidity will stay higher than the rest of the house. I would do this a couple of times a day, check your drainage to make sure it isn`t staying too wet and do the misting that was suggested !! Bright light and high humidity may help like Carolyn said.
