It's because of all the white stuff. I shoveled paddocks around February 15th, and this is what it looked like: Riding house from the south, the north and the front: My rock border to the east: I thought things would look brighter in a month's time. Hah!!! My car two days ago: The riding hall from the south, the north and the front: The furries have got some narrow paths in their paddocks. They don't look too happy about the situation either: There's a huge pile of snow in the middle of both of my paddocks. I've got short-legged ponies. They would disappear in that: But every cloud has a silver lining they say. We've got two evergreen junipers near the house on the south side. They're covered in snow of course, but there's a little cave underneath them. Just look at this: Yay! Crocus leaves! Can you see them?
Boy, is the snow making up for not showing up last year or what ??? So glad you have some new greenery showing up. Is that cave large enough for you to put in a small chair so you can sit and enjoy your first sign of spring? Maybe take an electric blanket to keep from getting too cold but not melt the snow above you?
So glad I don't have any of that stuff around at the moment. 3 months was more than enough, thank you very much!
I know the feeling. Three and a half months now, and we do wonder when it will all go away. I found the outside of the crocus cave. it looks like this: Amazing that anything can grow underneath that!
Oh Droopy, I don't even know what to say. I can sympathize. We had more snow here than I can ever remember in all my fifty some years.
That is amazing you still have that much snow, it no wonder your mood is dark gray. I am sending some flowers to cheer you up. Flowers for Droopy ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden )
What a remarkable set of fotos this time, Droopy. I can't get over that huge amount of snow over at the stables...and at your home, for that matter. I can tell by the expressions on their faces, that the ponies are not pleased with the snow on their playgroud. I have to say that the 'blankets' are very colourful and stylish. Gabriella's especially looks quite feminine. That is a nice little grotto you have there...'the krokus grotto'. Those guys may be slow in coming, but they ARE coming. You may have to put skis on the front of your auto and make it sort of like a big snow-mobile.
oh my droopy! you and sjoerd must have gotten all our snow this year. poor horses. so happy to see the crocusses!
Oh my gosh Droopy...all that snow would make me feel grey too. We just had the driest winter in 60+ years but usually it looks like that here this time of year. I know exactly how you feel! I love your little Crocus cave
Droopy I really hope the snow will slowly melt away soon for you. We had three months of the white stuff here and I got so depressed wondering if I'd ever see green in the garden again. It's good to know that you can see your little crocus' peeping through as it means that spring is surely on its way.
Oh, poor Droopy... I have been wondering what it looks like there and it is worse that I imagined.... Sending you WARM, snow-melting thoughts.... I think you need a vacation... the horsies too.
Droopy, I too am sending you warm snow-thawing thoughts! I saw enough of that white stuff this winter too. Hope it melts soon!
Thanks for your sympathy, flowers and warm hugs. They are helping! It's raining a lot outside, so I guess the next thing I'll complain about is flooding. We've had a rather bad stint the last couple of days. Cancelled planes and closed roads due to avalances and avalanche danger. Not even the mail has managed to come through from other parts of the country. Well, all will be over and done with in a couple of weeks' time, the way it looks.
Gosh, you are havng a rough early Spring. I hope it improves. At least the rain dance is working. Be careful out there, Droopy.
