I'm in Michigan and would like some input as to what I should do I have a hill behind our house that has ugly weeds on it right now, and would like to get some wildflowers growing on it.

SHould I just get some random mix and dump it on...

That sounds good except for two things....birds and rain. The birds could find those seeds an awfully good snack and rain could wash the seeds off the hill before they have a chance to root well.

If you don't have very many birds in the area you could scatter the seeds out during a time of the year when rain is more likely to be light showers or sprinkles and not the raging storms.

You check out the cost of those seed imbedded straw mats. Cut them up and put them out around the area and with good luck the flowers that grow will self-seed and spread naturally.

If it isn't a really huge area that could make it cost prohibitive, buy a flat or two of flowers that are native to your area and plant them on the hill. They will also self-seed and spread.

Just some thoughts out of the dark corners of my mind
    ;)

Thanks, I'm thinking that buying a few plants and mixing them up would not be a bad idea, versus seed!
