We have 2 female adult cats, one is about 11 and the other probably 5 or 6. They hate each other! Most of the time it is manageable because the old one stays in our room sleeping most of the time. I rescued a tiny kitten this morning (male I think) and brought him home. Both of the old ladies hissed at him. Is this a bad idea? Will they ever accept him? I would love to keep him but don't want to endanger his life! Let me know! Deanna
It would probably be best if you kept the kitten in a carrier and let the two older cats get used to it. They will hiss, that's the nature of the beast....but if he is in a carrier they can't hurt him.
That's what I did last night. I figured he can't get out but they can't get in! The Tortie has a rotten attitude and has her nose out of joint. Strats, our big tabby is scared to death of him! I had hoped a little maternal instinct would have kicked in but it doesn't seem like it, not yet any way
Question is whether the older cats will survive the kitten. I found one down our lane (http://www.gardenstew.com/threads/strange-looking-fruit.33811/) about 12 months ago. She is so aggressive towards our two older males that we have had to turn her into an outdoor cat for their sakes. she now only comes in to feed.
Sadly the little guy only lasted 2 days . I found out that 2 of his littermates passed away too. They told me he was probably born with distemper. Amazing how attached we became in just 2 days.
Awwwwwwwwww....sorry to hear the end. I am the same way, I fall in love with animals fast and it is always hard when you have to loose them. I am sorry for your loss...
I'm sorry about your little one. It's so hard to lose a pet, no matter how long you've had it. Just one special look and you can be in love.
