So I am curious and by asking hope to get to know you all better. How do you entertain yourselves in the winter time when you can't be in the gardens? Up until two years ago I always worked full time, so it was a new adventure for me to be able to be home. I was given the gift of being able to rediscover my creative side. I don't sew or knit, but I crochet some. I play piano and the keyboards so I spend time there. I read alot too. I love to write. I discovered I have somewhat of a gift for remodeling. Go figure. Here's a few pics of a project I took on last year. I got really creative with this, but I love how it turned out. These are in my kitchen.
This year I had twin grandbabies and then new puppies to occupy my winter, should be interesting what next winter will bring.

So tell me, how do you occupy your time?

Very nice job on the counter tops, love the design.

This winter we have been planning my daughters wedding :smt055 which will be in Oct, 2010. She lives 3 hours away in Atlanta and that is where the wedding will be, so we spend a lot of weekends there.

Since I got a new camera this fall, I have taken an keen interest in photography. I have also been organizing photographs. In my spare time I play bridge, attend exercise classes, walk, read...there is always something to do.

:-D You are so lucky to be able to plan a daughter's wedding. I have 2 of them. 1 eloped and the other was such short notice I didn't get to do much of anything. I hope you have a ball with your daughter and helping her plan. There is so much joy in seeing a child start off into a new life. Thank you for sharing that.

I keep myself busy during the short days of winter by painting, sketching and making greetings cards. I also like to do DIY and have just fitted new taps in the bathroom.

I really like the work you've done on your counter tops - very artistic. :-D

Thank you on the counters. I have always wanted to be an artist, but do not have that gift. I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler. If you will notice in a lot of my pics, there is not much that is straight. Everything has a curve or angle of some sort. LOL

Love the mosaic counter top Have always wanted to try mosaic but just haven't gotten around to it.

In the winter I read a lot, play a little keyboard, paint a few pictures and what ever else strikes me to do.

But I have really struggled, as many of you, with snow and dreary days.

Just this week my daughter helped me set up an aquarium. Today hubby and I went and bought 2 fish and some plants and goodies for it. It really cheered us both up. With the light on it reminds me of sunshine! I want to get a few more fish and a lot more plants but started out slow to let things get established and stable.

It is only a 10 gallon. If it works out well, we may go larger. I will post a picture of it when I ever get my camera out. I recommend any one try it. It is like gardening after all.

And most of all, in the winter, I dream of summer.

An aguarium. How fun! I've always wanted a salt water aquarium but simply have no room for one. I never thought of it as winter gardening. Have to think on that. It's a great idea. What kind of music do you enjoy and play?

Hi Newf, I love the saltwater aquariums also. The fish are so very pretty (and pricey). As far as music I play just for my enjoyment and I like country and gospel. I can't read music tho so I am limited to my imagination which isn't much past tunes and chords. :-| but I can entertain myself for a while :-D

DF - I love to play my keyboard. It soothes my soul. I have a cousin in Utah who has a whole wall that is a saltwater aquarium. It's beautiful.

DB - Thanks. Just like putting a puzzle together. Just took a hammer to some tile and then spent hours piecing it all back together. Doing it that way I had to adhere each piece one at a time but it kept me occupied through the winter. Had to sand some rough edges but I am pretty proud of my self. I love them.

I love them! I am not crafty when it comes to that kind of stuff. I used a fabric. I'll take a pic and post it. They are on my cupboard doors in the small bath. I envy people who can paint.
