What an amazing ritual last night was. I helped with the children’s craft area for two hours helping children and adults make luminaries, ornaments, snowflakes and swags. Later I participated in a continuation of this multicultural event with people from throughout the community.

The moon was full and the sky clear and cold, but unseasonably warm as I walked the luminaries lighted the path from crafts room to church. It nicely set the stage for the circle walk. The main part of the church was lit by candles and had a huge spiral circle formed with evergreen branches. Pans with sand were interspersed throughout the branches for candles.

By the time I participated the pans were circles of light filled with tea candles lit with batteries (for the little participants) or fire. It smelled wonderful from the cedar branches, and was quit magical as people of all ages slowly walked in to light their candle from the pillar candle in the center and placed their candle as they came out of the circle.

Lots of people sat quietly in chairs around the outside of the circle in the contemplation of their choice. People came and went at their own timing. What a great nondenominational way to celebrate the changing of the seasons in a thoughtful inclusive manner. To me it truly put the Love into the season.

How do you celebrate this amazing time of year?

Hi @Jewell nice to hear you had a lovely time and it sounds like it was heaven...I've not been to church in years but to see pic's where they're done beautiful for Christmas is enchanting.

For me and my hubby Christmas is like any other day...except for when new year comes and at midnight my front door goes open and also the back for one minute to lose the new year through and the old out :)

Gail, love the ritual you do! It was enchanting to see the moms and dads with infants and toddlers and old crabby people like me and all nationalities doing the walk together.

The solstice walk was started by an individual but got too big for her to do by herself so this church decided to continue it for her. Although I am not affiliated with any church I like to volunteer and do what I can where I see true unity, compassion and love being provided in the community.
