A few days ago ... quite a few days ago now, my Bride had another birthday. In these covid times most of the normal ways of celebrating have not been possible. Even though things are improving here, there is still a long way to go yet before things are a bit safer in public. Well, being that as it may, there is some loosening-up of the restrictions and i wanted to do something special for her, but could not come up with anything that I deemed special enough. She came up with an idea, something she really-really wanted: she wanted more compost...much more. We found a municipal pile where folks could pick up fresh compost the year round...gratis. I tiked the location in and away we went with our over-sized plastic bags and trugs. I did not have to think twice about it. Just a quick fone call to that municipality service to confirm that there was some really available. It was and I swept-up the Bride and we were off, off to fulfil her birthday wish. It was organised well, they even had a long-handled shovel and work gloves over to the side for folks to use. We worked feverishly— why, I don’t know. It was as if we didn’t, someone would come and scoop up all the compost before we could get our little bit. We loaded up eleven trugs and plastic sacks of that still steaming compost and she was delighted. What kind of girl wants compost for her birthday? Compost that she had to shovel herself ! Ho, ho, ho. Well, she would be rewarded with a fish and chips meal from Mickey D’s. Yes, we could not eat inside, nor in their eating area, so we chose the romantic setting of the back of our auto. Dear, oh dear. After the excitement of the loading and fine dining, we headed back to the lottie where we unloaded and spread some of the compost and plopped down under the colourful parasol pavilion which we created on one of the lottie’s terraces. Let the sun set in the coolness of the ending day, the perspiration gently evaporating and the heady fragrance of that mixing with the fresh compost rising from our grounds. I think that we broke some sort of romantic record this year.
Wow ! Your bride is a lucky woman ! To me that is a very romantic birthday ! Happy Birthday from me ! Its not always a gift that money can buy,, its the thought behind it all ! No matter what it happens to be !
Sjoerd, I suspect everyone on this site can relate!! Please give your Bride a happy birthday message from all of us! Sounds like a great day.
What a lovely birthday present for a lovely bride! And you took her out to lunch on top of it all. As Cayuga said, Everyone on the Stew can relate to her birthday wish.
Glad I'm not the only one that likes soil for her birthday! haha Looks like nice stuff too! Happy Birthday Mrs Sjoerd
Ms. Sjoerd here. Thank you all for the lovely comments. Next year my wish is to have a black tie dinner with 500 guests, dancing with live orchestra afterwards and stay in the presidential suite at the most expensive hotel in Monte Carlo. You are all invited.
Wow ! Better start getting the guest list ready ! I may need to start a gofundme page for that one ! I certainly hope you get your wish !
The Bride liked your responses. Ha ha. Good luck with that gofundme action, Mart. If you get more than you need, maybe you can afford a chauffeur and limo to show off with while you are here. Actually we need a gofundme to throw the party, she says.
Oh, sorry Cayu...I was supposed to ask about your outfit for the occasion. I guess the Bride wants to be colour-coordinated. But that’s all girl stuff innit.
Sjoerd, you are blessed. It is a rare Bride who prefers compost over a night out. Methinks your Bride knows what a rare Groom she has too. Happy belated birthday, Mrs. Sjoerd! I think all that compost is a super gift and what a lovely picnic spot after all the labor.
Cayu—chuckle. You smart-alecy so-n-so, you. Ahhh...aren’t you the nice girl, GP. i shall pass along your well wishes. Thanks.
