When I moved in with Shuan the was a wisteria entwining it' self around the front tree, last year it bloomed for the first time...I wish I had gotten pictures of it blooming, does anyone have any info. on these? Here's what ours looks like...
What do you need to know? Over here in the UK they are in flower about now in the south. You can prune them twice a year, once after flowering to tidy them up a little, then again in late summer, early autumn and cut back all of the long whippy growths to a couple of buds. They are fast growing and very strong and can be trained if kept pruned. I have seen them as standards, like small trees, and bonsais, as well as regular climbers smothering houses. When I was a little girlie, many moons ago, I grew 6 from seed and mum had 2, the neighbour had one and the rest we gave away. From seed it took over 10 years to flower and now it produces masses and masses of flowers annually. The seed pods are thick, chunky, velvet covered affairs which are very tactile. Good luck with it.
