Do you set a specific dollar amount in advance before you purchase flowers?

Good question Petronius. Like a total amount for the gardening season, or a specific upper limit per plant type? I definitely do the latter....the former I am thinking about.

Just last night I asked my husband to let me know how much I have spent on gardening stuff this year. (He keeps track of stuff like that!) Knowing that will help me rein in my impulses! And propogate more stuff rather than buying it. I have cherished roses & rhodies that I am trying to root layer. And I have rhodie & azaleas that have seeded themselves in our brick terrace. I am scrupulously sweeping around them until I have the time to lift & transplant them.

    How about others?

No, I just buy seeds or starts when needed. I propagate old roses, save seeds from annuals, take cuttings from house plants and root them. I'm pretty frugal when it comes to flowers, but please don't ask me about vegetable and herb starts/seeds!
