I was moving some firewood today and came across 2 wooley bear catepillers. They both were black on each end and light brown in the middle. That should mean a normal winter at the beginning and end but mild in the middle. That also goes along with the Farmers Almanac for our area too. Sure hope they are right!

I have not seen a wooly bears. I will look tomorrow when it is warmer. I wonder what kind of winter you get without wooly bears?

Interesting thought, I will have to search for a precedent. According to the second oldest almanac in the country, they are not using wooly bears in its weather forecasting criteria. I wonder if we are running out of wooly bears?

Are all those black caterpillars wooly bears? We have them everywhere and every time we go somewhere we see them crawling across the roads. They are mostly all black.

Dooley, the wooly bears have black on each end and brown in the middle. The length of the brown section is supposed to tell the severity of the winter for that year. The more brown, the less severe.

Jerry, Capt - I have never seen a wooley bear here before so I guess "no wooly bears mean no winter!" :D
