I was out cleaning up the last of the flower beds this afternoon and was a little surprised to see what appeared to be woolly aphids. So I looked a little closer... wooly fluff stuff ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden ) and this is what I found... fluff stuff from anemones ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden ) These are the seeds from my Japanese Anemones. I guess I haven't been out there before when they erupted from the plants. Anyone want some? seed fluff from Japanese anemone ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden )
I'm so glad they weren't aphids Carolyn. What a pity we can't trade seeds as I would have liked to try growing these here in the UK.
I've had them for several years and haven't noticed the seed fluff before. Glad I caught it this time. japanese anemones ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden ) This is what they look like in flower.
Isn't it nice to spot something you haven't seen before? We rescued a discount japanese Anemone from a nursery a couple of weeks back, and I think it's the same as yours.
Do you ever see volunteers from your plant in the area? There are lots of seeds ready to be scattered to the four winds. Jerry
Jerry, I can't say that I have seen any volunteers other than what is right there close to the plant and I was assuming that they were shoots coming up from the roots. I'll have to watch closer. Droopy, this is a very easy to grow plant. I have mine in full sun for the AM part of the day and then it is in shade the rest. Seems to do fine. No fuss or disease problems only a bug issue in the spring that leaves little "spots" all over the new foliage and then that dies off after a while and new foliage grows and it looks fine after the spring pest cycle goes away.
