Got a call today and the new kitchen cabinets will be here on Friday. Talked to my BIL and he is going to start on Monday. Have taken pics of the old kitchen and will post the old and new in the gallery. Have found one problem already. We bought the ceramic floor tile a year ago last Sept. We took the measurements of the kitchen and the utility room into Home Dept and the woman in there figured up the sq. ft. and told us how many tile we needed. Supposedly she figured in an extra 10% for cutting etc. I refigured it today and found out that we are short on the number of tile we need, let alone the 10% extra. And needless to say they no longer carry that tile. The woman no longer works there either, Hasn't worked there for about 10 months. So tomorrow we go back and get some tile that will complement what we have in a random pattern.
Great news about the kitchen CK!!! Pity about the tiles but I'm sure you'll be able to pick some lovely ones that will tie in nicely with the others. I'm looking forward already to seeing everything finished. :-D
Really sorry to hear about the tile blunder that the lady at Home Dept. Infuriating. I hope that plan of yours to combine them works out ok. I was just curious though, since it was their employee that made the mistake, couldn't you return the tiles and choose some new and different ones so that all would match?
wENT TO hOME dEPOT AND BOUGHT NEW TILE. cAN PICK IT UP ON sAT. wILL USE THE OTHER TILE ON THE BACK PORCH LATER THIS SUMMER.
Well this kitchen makeover has been one big screw up after another! First the original floor tile. Then this morning they were supposed to deliver the cabinets at 7:30 am. He finally got here at 9. Then he comes almost 1/2 way in the drive and walks the rest of the way to see what it's like. Then he decides that his truck is too heavy to drive across my bridge culverts. So I told him to take them to the local store. I am now waiting to hear when they will deliver them in a smaller truck. It says right on the order that nothing larger than a 5 ton truck can get in my drive way. That's about the size of a 12 ft long box truck. The one this morning was 24 ft long and fully loaded with 105 cabinets. He said the load weighed 26,000 pounds. I am about to give up. Home Depot is upset because I haven't paid for the cabinets yet and won't until they are delivered. And that's $7000 they haven't gotten.
I heard on one of the home remodeling programs on PBS or somewhere that when you get an estimate of how long a project will take to complete, you should double that to cover any problems and there will always be problems...just like you have experienced.
