I just went out to pull the trash and recycle containers back to the house and move a couple of pots around since it looks like we will be getting thunderstorms in a couple of hours. A car came to a stop at the curb and a lady rolled her window down to tell me how much she likes my fencing and the way it sets off the work I'm doing out there, especially the two at the corner I figured most of the people going up and down our street and especially our immediate neighbors hadn't been paying any attention to the work going on in the yard, so her stopping by really surprised me. Over the years I have sent notes to gardeners whose front gardens I really like, but this was the first time I have received a complement from a stranger. I hope my notes put a smile on the faces of those gardeners the way that one lady stopping by put one on mine.
What a wonderful thing to happen, Toni. Of course we all told you how great it all looked...but this is different--it's like, well...independent, and that makes it all the more special, being totally unexpected. A surprise. You must be glowing with pride now...well-deserved too, I might add. Congrats.
Fantastic! I can think of 2 houses I admire every time I go by, but I have never thought about leaving a note. What a great idea!
Aw how nice! You have to figure that for every person who takes the time to pay a compliment, there are twice as many who admire your place but don't make the effort to let you know. It's nice to have your effort noticed. The other day a contractor I know asked me how I got my grass to look so nice... I really liked the compliment even though the answer was "absolutely nothing..."
