Last July I found an Orb Weaver (aka Charlotte) suspended on her web between two of the tallest Canna's out back. She was there every day from at least early July until a really heavy rain storm in Sept. :'( I have looked for her to come back but I think she must have been killed by the rain. That Canna bed is to be dug up, cleaned out, amended and replanted. But now that has to wait until the egg sacks are empty sometime this fall according to some websites or in the spring according to others. Thankfully the two Canna's the sacks are attached to are close together, I think I can work on the major part of the bed without disturbing them.
Writing spider egg sack Hi Toni This is my first reply to any subject, I'm a new member and just love this site. I'm so glad you've spared this egg sack and hope you are rewarded next season with a few more of these gardeners friends. Seems large spider webs are a sure sign of fall here in Sothern California, and I look forward to them every year. Happy Gardening
So good of you to mind those eggs, toni. I hope the babies will catch all the flies and mosquitoes tormenting you next year.
I have them hanging all around toni I don't mess with them and I wont let anyone else bother them. Its my favorite spider.
We have some very dirty corners of glass in our greenhouse windows where we have egg sacks. The glass only gets cleaned when the spiderlings have all left. It's good to know that you look after your spiders too Toni.
A writing spider made an egg sack on the corner of my window in the Fall. The mom left right after she laid the eggs. It's still there, but I don't know when they are supposed to hatch. I heard some people say Spring, and other people said Fall. Does anybody know for sure? moderator's note: corrected Chatspeak see point 3.2 of usage rules
Thanks Toni for info. Never thought I'd see the day that I would enjoy watching a spider. You converted me. Going out and look for sack now.
