We spotted our first hummingbird on the last day of the Cornell Backyard Feeder Watch--good timing on the little guy's part! Today we saw one feeding on the geranium on the back patio.
We mostly get Rubythroats here and this one, or two? was a Rubythroat.

I love those little critters. They are so friendly. Two things that happen relating to interaction of them with me.

One is that if they need their feeders filled, they will come and look into my screen door and flit away until they get my attention and fill it for them.

The other is that when I open the screen door to enter the house they have followed me right in. Then they go around looking at my things hanging on the walls. When they get tired they try to get out the windows. I have to catch them with a very light kitchen towel to release them back outside.

This has happened many times. Now I watch that they are not following me before I go into the house.

I don't know why this happens but they do communicate very well.

I got my first one last weekend. I quickly put out the feeders.

That is better news than Capistrano's annual guests at this point.

I'm never likely to see any hummingbirds here but I'm so glad your garden now has one again. Hopefully it will be the first of many visiting you this year. :stew1:
