We are going camping next week and taking the camper and pontoon boat up and wanted to check them, and the boat ramps out. We really liked the second one but decided to check a third one. We found out it was 10 miles of rough gravel road and when we got it wasn't very nice. Mike noticed that our car engine was missing so we headed back to civilization and then the front left wheel started making noise...bad noise! We stopped and Mike checked under the hood and found out the rough road had knocked off a spark plus so that was a simple fix. Then He jacked up the car and found the a rock had gotten stuck between the dust shield and rotor on the back of the wheel (you can tell I'm not mechanically smart!). He worked that lose and we were good to go. We started home (about 60 miles) and it started raining, hard. Then it turned to hail about an inch in diameter. It was hitting the windshield so hard we thought it was going to shatter. Thank goodness it was not frozen totally! The road was covered in a couple of inches of hail so it was slow going even when the hail stopped. All's well as we made it home safe and no dents in the car either. When we got home we found out there were tornado warnings all along that strip. An interesting trip.
Glad you got home okay. Your road trip fits right in with the ones a few of us have had http://www.auntiebel.com/threads/your-holiday-disasters.661/
I was over in your neck of the woods when we came home from vacation. We came back to Idaho from the Tetons.
Good heavens, I'm so glad you survived the scouting trip! Are you sure you want to go camping and kayaking after that experience?
Wow 20fus! Quite a foray! I certainly hope you have better weather next week. BTW, my husband and I are going camping next week too. Acadia!
Gosh that was some experience!! I really hope that your camping trip next proves to be totally uneventful. One day like that is quite enough after all!!
We will check the weather to make sure what the weather forecast is before we go! We very seldom get any hail here and it's even rarer to get tornado warnings. I have to say though that this hailstorm didn't compare to the Texas hail storms I've been in! We bought a new, for us, lite-weight camper and want to try it out plus we only took out the pontoon boat once last year and twice the year before. I hinted that if we didn't use it, we may as well get rid of it! Our daughter and her family will be going with us so we should have lots of fun.
Ah, there is nothing like an idyllic day in the mountain countryside, away from all the hustle and bustle...the pure peacefulness of it, mechanics gone wrong, hailstorms, tornado warnings, egads Mother Nature was in a snit that day. I am sure you and the hubs didn't ask for any of that so hopefully Mother Nature will be in a better mood the next time out. So glad to hear you made it home safely 2ofus, those hailstorms can be wicked!
wow....I am glad you made it back home and hopefully your camping trip will be relaxing for you both when you get there. Have a great time!!!
