A seed to anyone who can guess what this is! ( photo / image / picture from Cayuga Morning's Garden )
Wooden stakes to prevent hoards of barbarians from jumping over the fence and getting into the garden. Jerry
DING-DING-DING!! And the seed goes to....Jewell! I planted a bamboo some years ago, and it is doing what bamboos do...taking over! Jerry--Stakes for barbarians, your interpretation is great! Seed for you too!
Those are going to make dandy garden stakes next year. I need to do some serious stake making also. Yours are a great size. What type of bamboo do you have? Mine is golden. It has stayed put, but the clumps have gotten impossibly big over the years. Guess I haven't been making enough garden stakes.
It is Phyllostachys bissetti. And yes, it is a great source of garden stakes. I did not realize how much mine would take over though. When I saw the spikes in the lawn (yes, the lawn, my husband mowed them down before I took the picture), I had a bad dream about bamboo taking over our house! Mine grows 10-15 feet tall and does make a good screen.
