After clearing out my medicine box of expired medicines, I made a trip to the pharmacy to replenish it and I couldn't believed what I saw on the rack. Yes I thought I was dreaming because I was always looking for it whenever I am in any pharmacy. There was only 1 box left and it was staring at me right in my face.

I quickly grab it with a very big smile on my face :-D . When I got back I made an announcement to my mini-farm and I guess they are all happy too!

    YIPPEE !!! :-D :-D :-D

I have never used epsom salts, I know it can be used for fertilizing in the garden. What makes it better than other fertilizer that you have been looking for it?

Sherry, Epsom salt makes fruit sweeter when it is ripening and helps keep tomatoes from developing blossom end rot.

I just bought a big bag of some also, just to have at home for strains/sprains and achy feet.
Hmmm... makes fruit sweeter? Might have to try to next year on the peaches, blackberries & cantaloupes.

Cheryl, When you are done soaking your feet, go dump the water in your garden. It won't care that your feet were in it first. It will still appreciate its share of the E. salts.

When reusing some pot soil helped make my runner beans happy. They greened right up :stew1:

Yes Cuatro-Gatos it is like winning a lottery. Yesterday with the Epsom salt in hand I just stood there in the mini-farm wandering how to use it. Went back into the house and google it and got more confused.

Question, use it as a spray or just spread some quantity on the ground?

    HELP!!!

KKNg, I just put about 1 cup scratched into the ground around roses, tomato plants (not seedlings, but tomato plants that are at least 1 foot tall), and any plant that seems to be sickly. I then water in the Epsom Salts, but that isn't necessary where there is reliable rainfall.
I think it's the magnesium that is important. It is a needed trace element for plants, and helps the plant take up other trace elements from the soil.

    Mate, that is too good!

I believe that your plants will indeed be pleased with your new amendment.

Great news, perhaps you could speak with the owner of the shop and see if he can order some especially for you.

I add TBS. of epsom salts and 2 TBS. crushed egg shells to a watering can, fill with water and give my plants a drink.

From a well in Epsom England to your local store, Epsom salts have come a long way. With a chemical formula of MgSO4 Magnesium Sulfate components are utilized by plants in different ways. The magnesium(Mg) is used to strengthen plant cell walls, allows plants to take in other nutrients like Nitrogen and Phosphorous and it helps the plant to create chlorophyll. The ability to produce fruit and flowers is also greatly enhanced by magnesium. Plants can rapidly take up the compound when used in a water solution as a spray(folia feeding). On the other side of the compound, Sulfur(S) adds flavor to some veggies, is essential in the creation of vitamins and enzymes and it too helps the plant to create chlorophyll.

Is it okay to use Epsom salt in potted plants too?
