Things us gardeners put ourselves through. At work today, I disturbed a red ants nest so I gave the area a wide birth. A little later - YOUCH - something stung my 'ample' belly. When I looked under my t-shirt, a red ant had his mandibles well and truly in my skin. Cor, it didn't half hurt and has left a mark. Afraid to say, the red ant is now living in that great ants nest in the sky.

hahaha... oh, the trials and tribulations of a gardner for hire. You Know, EJ--you don't have to wait for your brother and sister to have kids--you're already someone's ant.

Nasty!! Thank goodness it was only one though. I hope you put some disinfectant on the bite just in case it gets infected.

I have more ants this year....they moved for some reason from one plant to another. I hate to put any poisons on the ground because I have lots of toads and other creatures I don't want to get rid of..well...maybe a few rabbits would be alright...

I never seen one but I've heard stories about them and none of them are good.

:0 Sjoerd! hehehe. A spot of antihistamine cream did the trick Eileen. Rotten things. I find red ants and nettles worse than wasp stings! Things we do for our hobby.

Ok I know you'll think I'm crazy but bleach stops the sting, and you won't get that nasty little puss bump that takes forever to heal. I put the bleach on some dryer lint, after all its where i store the bleach. Then rub it on and toss the lint. Works well on wasp stings and those sting catapillas too. You'll need to do it soon after the sting for it to work best.

Something bit me on my shoulder about 3 weeks ago and a lump started to grow. Normally when I get bitten or stung, I never bother about them because they just disappear in a while :) excluding bee sting .... I am allergic to them. Now this bite on my should turn into a little volcano and it erupted after 2 weeks. Because of it's size I got worried and went to seek medical attention and was put on a full dose of antibiotic treatment. Now it is OK :) ...whew!!!

After a quick bow to Hubris (Greek goddess of False Pride) I suppose I must be lucky, I either do not get bitten or if I do I do not react to them. Now my wife, comes up in lumps.
I have to pick the Raspberries for her as there is something which lives in, on,under or next to them which chews pieces out of her. Strange.
Have a read of Chapter 5 the Walk of this Story for a tale about ants, eventually.

We had the big red ants when I was young and when my older son was small
when the fire ants came in they killed off the big red ants our horn toads and many many other things we wanted in our yards.Yes,Featherphobia My mom taught me to put bleach on on stings but it doesn't help on the ground hornet sting but it is immediate pain relieve on almost every other sting.
