What zones are you folks in and what Is your last frost dates? Might help us cold zone 5 and 6 folks think better on planting..... Please share your spring problems, and maybe is late zoners will know what to expect. Thanks .........b
I am zone 8b and the map I looked at said Feb. 1- Feb. 28th. I am starting seeds on Monday, tomato for sure, and some cool season annuals, sweet pea, nasturtiums, nicotania, and maybe some petunias and thunbergia, all of this, except the tomatoes melts once summer hits here, but does fine in the spring and late fall.
I have no idea,, all i know is its cold an stay cold for a long time,,,,lol. I think Droopy said i was a zone 6 in the European zone scale. i do know ours goes the lower the number the hotter the zone, an the higher the colder it is.. i think our zoning goes to 8. Droopy would know more than me on this.
cajunbelle, Ok I wrote that down.. Now is monday considered spring in zone 8b ? THose sound like our tipical seeds .. Keep us up on it .. thanks barb
Biita zone here are lower is colder...... I think. All I know is eastern Pennsylvania is lots warmer than western where I live..... My relatives live eastern.
I know my zone is 4. but not sure what the last frost date is. I usually start vege seeds inside in march depending on the vege.
petunia I do too.. Last year my upstairs was loaded.. But the white fly really took over ........ Now I am discouraged .. I want to start geranium cuttings soon from the plants I put in the basement .. I do that yearly and dont have to buy.. b
I think mine is zone 8b too not sure and I plant the seedlings as I watch the news daily and keep them in pots forever seems like and run them in and out.I planted them all before April 22, last spring.They all pretty much did their own thing as I was in Montana untin May 20 th and all was so big when I got home.
B., we are not considered Spring until March 21st. I also came across this bit of info: To kill off unwanted insects in the greenhouse or cold frame, bash up some laurel leaves and leave them in a bowl overnight. The damaged leaves exude prussic acid gas, which is deadly to most small insects. I don't see why it wouldn't work inside too. I just wonder where to get the laurel leaves.
Sharon, they are probably referring the Bay Laurel, the original true Laurel. Bay leaves that are used for cooking is what they are referring to.
Biita is in 6 (I think) and I am in 4. The last frost date might be as early as late February or as late as early May, we never know. I've got the warmest winters. It rarely goes below -10 deg C - 14 deg F here.

The weather varies quite alot here, especially on the exposed prairie. The smart people say I'm zone 8 but it gets a bit colder than that. We can't count on no-freeze until Mothers day. It's a BIG day for garden centers!
